French, ivory greyhound whistle, exceptional form & carving, ebony end, with a carved shield on the end bearing the name “Fly”.
Masterful carving captures the essence of the subject, a prized dog named “Fly”. Created as either a reminder or a tribute to a beloved, special dog, the artist has a complete understanding of his subject that is reflected in the poise and grace of the dog. There is exquisite intricate detail in Fly’s expressive features and body, his collar, floral decorations on the sides and the crest with his name.
This beautiful one of a kind whistle was most likely carved in Dieppe, France in the mid-nineteenth century. It is in perfect condition. Circa 1850, 3.5″L, 1.25″H
